Textile Made from 100 Per Cent Recycled PET Bottles

Foss Manufacturing, a leading designer and manufacturer of non-woven fabrics and specialty synthetic fibers, announces its Ecospun? fiber. Fabrics made with Ecospun may provide consumers with an alternative way to contribute to a healthier environment.

Ecospun fiber is made from 100 percent recycled plastic PET bottles that deliver a soft, luxurious, colorfast product without depleting the Earth's natural resources. The fiber is made into fabrics such as fleece jackets and sweatshirts, which are warm, durable, weather-resistant, lightweight and comfortable. Ecospun has the capacity to keep almost three billion plastic PET bottles out of the world's landfills each year, saving over half a million barrels of oil and eliminating 400,000 tons of harmful air emissions that contribute to global warming, acid rain and smog.

Foss' Ecospun has led the way to "green" manufacturing in the textile industry, winning prestigious awards for Environmental Excellence and Sustainable Development. Ecospun fiber has been independently certified by Scientific Certification Systems, the U.S. leader in evaluating environmental claims, and meets all testing standards including strength, shrinkage and colorfastness. It can be made into other textile products like blankets, auto interiors, home furnishings and craft felt.

With the option to blend this recycled fiber with its Fosshield? antimicrobial technology, Foss has created a unique antimicrobial polyester fiber blend. Because Fosshield is more than a topical coating, it will continue working for the life of your fabric, no matter how many sticky fingers it encounters or how many times it is washed. This fiber blend, when woven or needle-punched into fabrics, effectively inhibits the growth of destructive bacteria, mold, mildew, and fungus while maintaining all the environmentally-friendly aspects of Ecospun.
